Abstract
Purpose: This study explores the relationship between health literacy, health behavior, and quality of life (QoL) in elderly rural populations, with focus on the impacts of health literacy on health behavior and QoL.

Methods: A descriptive survey was conducted on 138 participants(of mean age 77.9¡¾5.23) using phone and face-to-face interviews. Data was analyzed included multiple regression, Pearson¡¯s correlation, t-tests, ANOVA, and Duncan tests using SPSS/Win 24.0.

Results: Health literacy averaged 7.17¡¾4.93 out of 16, health behavior 34.45¡¾4.87 out of 56, and QoL 0.79 ¡¾0.14 out of 1. The Majority of participants (59.4%) had low health literacy.
Among all study subjects, significant correlations were found between literacy levels, health behavior (F=13.36, p<.001), and QoL (F=14.26, p<.001). Also, health literacy was positively correlated with health behavior and QoL, and higher health literacy significantly influenced health behavior (¥â=0.42, p<.001, explanatory power 20%) and QoL, especially in males (¥â=0.18, p=.049; ¥â=0.42, p<.001, explanatory power 28%).

Conclusion: The study confirms positive links between health literacy and health behavior and QoL among elderly rural residents and shows that improving health literacy significantly impacts health behaviors and quality of life. In addition, the study demonstrates a need to provide educational programs targeting the elderly in rural areas.
